Standards of Care

We raise medical standards through collaborative learning

STANDARDS OF CARE

Our Standards of Medical Care ensures every patient treated by us benefits from the same equipment, procedures and highly trained, credentialed medical volunteers, no matter where they receive treatment.

CREDENTIALED MEDICAL VOLUNTEERS

Every medical volunteer must be credentialed to ensure patients get the best possible care. We have a credentialing process for all medical volunteers that includes ongoing training, evaluation and mentoring periods.

STANDARD EQUIPMENT & TRAINING

We have standardised our practices and equipment, especially as they relate to the special needs of children, to ensure the safest surgical environment possible.
Equipment and biomedical engineering training is provided to our partner countries to ensure that all children treated will benefit from the same level of technology, regardless of where they receive care. When not available in a partner country, our medical mission teams bring standardised equipment with them to the mission site.

PRE-OPERATIVE CARE

On a typical 7-day mission, as many as 120 children receive free physical examinations, in addition to about 80 who receive surgeries. For many of these children, this may be the first time they receive a medical screening. These screenings are vital to determining which children qualify for surgery and which may require more extensive treatment.

POST-OPERATIVE CARE PROGRAMME

The Post-Operative Care Programme provides our patients with comprehensive care after surgery by evaluating their health, the progress of their surgical treatment, their speech and, if necessary, delivering further medical care. The Post-Operative Care Programme not only facilitates our surgeons’ continual education, but ensures our patients receive the highest quality of care.
